Back in 2019, after a particularly tough day at the office, we sat down and asked ourselves a simple question: what would we do if we started our own business?
With a shared passion and background in hospitality, it quickly became clear that there was a gap in the Essex market — a premium mobile bar service with personality, quality, and heart.
That summer, we purchased a horsebox trailer and, with the help of Jack’s dad, transformed a shell of metal into a fully functional bar on wheels. Just as the conversion was complete, the world came to a halt with the outbreak of Covid-19, bringing the hospitality industry to a standstill.
Refusing to give up, we adapted. We took our skills online, delivering virtual cocktail tutorials to build interest (and keep ourselves out of trouble). As restrictions eased, this evolved into delivering cocktail kits directly to customers’ doors.
When small gatherings were finally allowed again, another opportunity emerged. After investing in a pop-up bar, After VI began providing bar services for weddings, birthdays, and corporate events across Essex, London, Kent, and the surrounding areas.
Three years after the idea was first born, we reached a major milestone — acquiring our first permanent premises: The Taproom.
- a much-loved micropub just off the main high street in Upminster. While paying homage to the business we inherited, we brought our own ideas, experience, and passion to the space, shaping it into somewhere both we and our customers are truly proud of.
Today, the Taproom boasts craft beers on keg, seasonal cocktail menus, and an ever-rotating, fully stocked beer fridge — ensuring there’s always something new to discover. Add to that our wall of cider featuring over 30 flavours, and we’re confident we offer one of the most diverse drinks selections around.
Beyond great drinks, the Taproom has become a hub for events alongside our regular trading days. From live music and beer festivals to tasting nights and special showcases, there’s always something happening in the heart of Upminster — and we think it’s one of the best places to visit in town.
